In the ninth year, 233 projects from the Czech and Slovak Republics applied for Interior of the Year 2023. The international jury led by the rector emeritus of the Prague University of Applied Sciences, prof. Acad. arch. Jiří Pelcl, dr. h. c. has desided about the winners. In the category PUBLIC INTERIOR II (premises of shops, service establishments, travel agencies, libraries, banks, hospitals, schools, etc.) the winner is the Restoration of the Red Church in Olomouc according to the project of our studio.
Many thanks to Denisa Kubíčková Strmisková for the cooperation on the interior design, especially for the selection of furniture and lighting. Jan Košátko has designed a new logo and information system for the library.
The trophy for the winner is traditionally proposed by a different personality every year. These are always author’s originals, which express the author’s specific attitude towards the theme of the interior. In the ninth year of the competition, the artistic director of the Rückl glass factory, designer Kateřina Handlová, took on this role.

A total of 222 projects entered the competition, from which a nine-member jury selected the best of them in five categories. In the category of public interior – commercial and presentation spaces, the main prize went to the Red Church Reconstruction by Miroslav Pospíšil from atelier-r, which was awarded for the very sensitive connection of the historical building with modern multi-purpose equipment, which gives the whole a distinctive character.
The jury was impressed by the material solution and the characteristic choice of lighting fixtures. We would like to thank Denise Kubíčková Strmisková for the cooperation on the interior design, especially for the sensitive selection of furniture and lighting, and Jan Košátek for the new library logo and the design of the orientation system. The entire project was designed for the needs of the Science Library in Olomouc and was financed by the Olomouc Region, to whom we thank for their trust.

The Red Church Reconstruction was chosen by an expert jury as the winner of the Czech Building of the Year 2023. The jury appreciated both the dynamism of the extension’s contemporary architecture and the spatially and materially sensitive solution of the spaces in the preserved Neo-Gothic architecture. The award was accepted by representatives of the contractor, i.e. the companies OHLA ŽS and STRABAG. The prize is a hand-cut decanter with hand-painted golden skull motive from the Hamlet collection. The decanter was designed by Rony Plesl and made in the Rückl glassworks.
On Friday, November 24, 2023, the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction held the announcement of prestigious titles and prizes in the 31st edition of the Construction of the Year competition show in Prague’s Rudolfinum. The jury awarded 13 buildings that won the title Building of the Year 2023. Among them was also the Reconstruction of the Red Church in Olomouc, which newly opened the church to the public. After a long time when the church served as a book warehouse, the Science Library in Olomouc will organize social and cultural events in it.

The association For Beautiful Olomouc awards the best buildings realized in the Olomouc region in a two-year interval. The expert jury included our project for The Reconstruction of The Red Church this year among the 9 finalists who were awarded a diploma. The handover took place inside the reconstructed church.

We took part in a gala evening at the Prague Planetarium on March 31, during which 3 special prizes were awarded to architects who appeared in the Top 100 Exceptional Studios of the Czech Republic in 2021. We were one of them along with Brainwork and Formafatal studios. Thank you!
